RIP Coach

Bobby Knight passed away this week at age 83.  RIP, Coach.

At the Pan Am Games in 1985, with the most celebrated chair throw in NCAA hoops history.
With Coach K at USMA in 1969: Two of the greatest coaches ever.
RIP Coach Knight
In retirement he became a little more relaxed.  “A LITTLE,” I said: Shining example for us all.

When asked his opinion on sports writers, Knight had this to say:
“All of us learn to write in the second grade.
Most of us go on to greater things.”

(This may be my new favorite quote of all time.)

NYT obit is here.

Last word to John Feinstein, famous sports writer (of course):

“If I had a dollar for every time someone told me a story about encountering Knight and finding him gracious and charming and funny, I would never have to work another day in my life. If I also had a dollar for every time I’ve been told a story about Knight being a bully or being rude and obnoxious, I’d be Bill Gates.”

RIP, Coach. Now you can relax.
