Posted on May 31, 2021June 4, 2021 by Dan WolfThe Best Reason What’s the best reason for hiking the easy trail close to home when it’s a balmy 49 degrees out with light rain on Memorial Day? You make the call. Best answer wins. A – Memorial Day flags are flying at half mast to honor the fallen. <Taps, here.> B – Nobody gives a hoot if you pick the easiest trail, because… … there are no other hikers on the trail today! C – If you read the fine print, it says today’s temp is too cold for snakes. Reference yesterday’s post here. D – It is literally just a stone’s throw from our front door to Roxborough State Park. E – The parking lot is nearly empty. Unheard of! F – That mile long stretch of dirt road? It’s now a mile-long stretch of nice new asphalt. Wow! G – If you share the trail with other hikers today, they’re walking on dainty toes. H – Local history: Back in the day they baked bricks in the Old Kiln & the community was called “Silica.” Last but certainly not least, the VERY best reason is… A hike is still a hike no matter how near or far; it’s still a hike either above or below par…. … and I don’t golf. 🙂 🙂 🙂 (Gotcha, BRG!)
